Welcome to our first blog post! We are so excited to provide women with some awesome reading material that will help support them in all stages of their lives! This first blog post is going to give you a little insight into what Wonder Mother is all about, and what you can expect to see from us.
So, what is Wonder Mother?
Wonder Mother - as a product - is an effervescent tablet that is a nutritional supplement for breastfeeding women. Wonder Mother - as a company - is a team of feminists focused on supporting women.
Wonder Motherwas started by Lelia Scheu in 2016. While breastfeeding her son, she struggled to stay hydrated, no matter how much water she drank. She not only worried about her own hydration, but she worried about her milk supply and wondered if she was getting enough nutrients through her diet alone. Suddenly, from the depths of exhaustion, Lelia was struck with the idea to create a supplement for breastfeeding moms. She found the market saturated with supplements for breastfeeding moms, but the primary target of most supplements was boosting milk supply. Lelia wanted to create something that focused more on “self care” for the mother herself, with a potential side benefit of increase in quality and quantity of breastmilk.
With the help of her brother, a food chemist whose team has developed some of the most well-known effervescent supplements, her sister, who is an expert in food distribution and supply hygiene, and the help of lactation consultants, doulas, midwives, and dieticians Lelia created the first Wonder Mother supplement.
Lelia says that the electrolytes and minerals are the key ingredients in the supplement, and that this refreshing lemon/lime tablet can help hydrate, energize, and nourish a nursing mother. Even better, it gives breastfeeding women a tasty alternative to the endless glasses of water they need to drink!
So what can you expect to see from Wonder Mother in the future?
Wonder Mother plans to grow its target audience. We want to provide support to teens and even older women who may be going through menopause. You can also expect to see more blog posts about breastfeeding, pumping at work, nutrition, exercise, and current issues like racial disparities in women’s and children’s health.
